CHIP Health Insurance

CHIP Health Insurance is medical coverage that provides insurance to uninsured children and teens. The program covers various states throughout the country and qualification is based on family income levels. In general, families who earn too much to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private medical insurance are eligible.

This coverage is provided in the states of Mississippi, Pennsylvania, and Texas, to name a few. The plans vary by state, but there are usually several offerings within each geographic area. An individual can find the available coverage by doing an online search by state and county. The comprehensive health benefits provided include the ability to select from a pool of doctors, regular checkups, office visits, dental (including fillings and cleanings), and prescription drugs.

There are also specialized services included in the health plan, such as access to specialists, x-rays, lab testing, hospital care, mental health services, vision coverage, and treatment for special needs. In some states, uninsured pregnant women who are not eligible for Medicaid may be entitled to CHIP prenatal benefits. Care during pregnancy is essential and this health care plan offers a valuable service to women when they need it most.

Enrollment fees and copays are determined based on the income of the family, but tend to be no more than a $50 annual enrollment fee and $3 to $10 co-pays for physician visits and prescriptions. This makes CHIP a very cost-effective solution for insuring the youth within a household. Individuals may apply online or via telephone, fax, or mail and free assistance is available for those who have trouble while completing the application.

The CHIP health insurance plan provides a wide array of services at a very low price for youth and pregnant women who are uninsured. Individuals must meet income requirements in order to be eligible and a small enrollment fee and co-pays are required. The comprehensive level of benefits provided make these costs seem very small in comparison.
